Some moments in life taste sweeter when shared with others–births, graduations, weddings. Milestones like these are meant for community celebration. The legal wins we honored at Together Rising: Celebrating Legal Wins are no different.
On October 19, 2024, clients, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate over 20 newcomers who reached life-changing milestones–securing asylum, reuniting with loved ones after years apart, and receiving green cards. Among the honorees were even some of our own staff and a board member.
What makes the AsylumWorks community so special is its unique understanding of the resilience needed to reach these milestones. For many, each achievement represents years of uncertainty, sacrifice, legal hurdles, and financial hardships. In moments like these, our community reassures newcomers they are not alone–we’re here to provide support every step of the way.
As Bekele*, a newcomer from Ethiopia, shared after the event: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the entire AsylumWorks team for the invitation to the Legal Wins event and for acknowledging my family. Your willingness to go above and beyond, often working creatively to address personal issues, demonstrates your genuine compassion and dedication.
Each visit to Asylum Works feels like coming home. Without your comprehensive support, many of us, including myself, would not have the opportunity to reunite with our families and pursue our dreams.
