Awel manages the Legal Navigation Program and helps clients access low-bono or pro-bono immigration legal resources. He leads legal education projects, such as Know-Your-Rights (KYR) Training, and coordinates advocacy projects with AsylumWorks legal partners. Back home in Ethiopia, Awel taught higher education, provided free legal services for vulnerable or marginalized communities, and led clinical legal programs. He has extensive experience working with pro-bono immigration lawyers and has directly worked on several cases pertaining to asylum seekers in Europe. Now in the U.S., Awel has continued to lend his skills and expertise to help those in need through his role at AsylumWorks and by volunteering for various community and legal associations. He holds an LLM in Constitutional and Public Law from Addis Ababa University and an LLM in Comparative Law from the University of Turin. Awel is fluent in Amharic and Afan Oromo.
