Operations Program Internship, Spring 2026

Our mission is to empower newcomers seeking safety to overcome health, employment, and legal challenges. Our interdisciplinary approach combines Health & Wellness, Employment & Education, and Legal Navigation services to help clients rebuild healthy, safe, and self-sufficient lives. Services are free and available to newcomers living in the Washington, D.C. metro region, regardless of language or country of origin. Central to our approach is our commitment to hiring and training bilingual newcomers to support other newcomers. This ensures our services remain culturally responsive, impactful, and sustainable over time.

VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION 

AsylumWorks is seeking a volunteer intern to assist the Operations team for
a minimum of 20 hours per week during the Spring 2026 semester. The
Operations Coordinator will supervise this position. This position requires
regular in-office presence at our Dupont Circle location. This opportunity is
ideal for a driven undergraduate or graduate student seeking experience in
nonprofit administration, program management, partner relations, and
development.
AsylumWorks recognizes that pursuing a degree is a pivotal time for
students to learn about their professional goals and develop the skills
needed to enter the professional sphere. While this internship is unpaid, the
intern will have the opportunity to propose a related individual project that
can add additional value to their professional portfolio outside of the internship duties.


RESPONSIBILITIES
● Manage the AsylumWorks Community Co-op, including liaising with community partners and sorting, logingg, and tracking incoming community donations
● Provide administrative support for volunteer recruitment and
orientation, including communications, scheduling, and updating training materials
● Strategize on key volunteer pathways and engagement opportunities in coordination with the Operations Coordinator
● Assist client-facing teams with preparing for community events, workshops, and client programming by helping gather materials, setting up spaces, and coordinating logistics with staff. The intern is welcome to attend these client events
● Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator on improving internal processes and developing tools that strengthen organizational efficiencySupport daily operations, including organizing office inventory
● Complete special projects as assigned


REQUIREMENTS
● Current undergraduate or graduate student with experience or a focus of study in social science, human services, non-profit management,
business, or a related field;
● Able to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment;
● A demonstrated awareness of cultural humility;
● Strong interpersonal communication skills;
● Computer literate; and
● An inherent desire to improve, create, and problem-solve.
