Founded in 2016, AsylumWorks empowers asylum seekers, refugees, and other people fleeing persecution to thrive in their new communities. To do this, AsylumWorks provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to help individuals and families protect and promote their health, participate in immigration legal proceedings, and become economically self-sufficient. Direct client services are free and available to individuals and families living in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, regardless of language, country of origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender expression. To scale our impact beyond the National Capital Region, AsylumWorks creates and shares expert tools and training resources to support newcomer-serving organizations nationwide.
JOB DESCRIPTION
AsylumWorks is seeking a full-time Employment and Education Program Manager to provide direct services, program and people management, and partnership coordination. This position will be supervised by the Director of Programs. AsylumWorks is a hybrid workplace; this position may work from home up to two days a week at AsylumWorks’ office in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Service Provision – 40%
- Identifies, screens, and enrolls eligible clients in employment and education programming
- Assign clients to career coaches for consultations and coaching
- Provides high-quality, client-led career counseling to program participants
- Maintains a dynamic caseload of career coaching clients, ensuring clear documentation of client support
- Facilitates employment and education workshops as needed
Program and People Management – 35%
- Oversees employment specialists, interns, and volunteers in programmatic activities, identifying the need for additional human resources when required
- Provides supervisees with weekly supervision, annual performance goals, and appraisals
- Works with the Development team to set program goals and effectively report program outcomes for active grants
- Maintains program documentation and manuals to guide Employment and Education team activities, adapting as needed
- Develops team workplans and program management tools as needed to ensure programmatic outcomes can be tracked and met
- Maintains program data to ensure appropriate use of program database and software
- Promotes quality assurance through regular program monitoring and shadowing of employment specialists
- Facilitates regular feedback from clients and leverages feedback into program design
Partnership and Coordination – 25%
- Leads internal coordination with the Health & Wellness and Legal Navigation programs to provide feedback on areas for integration
- Builds the program’s reputation as a viable candidate-referral service and exemplary workforce development program
- Represents AsylumWorks at relevant public events (grant meetings, networking conferences, special interest groups, etc.) as needed
- Builds out potential employer partners and manages relationships with key partners including employers
- Coordinate with other employment service providers to maintain an understanding of best practices and available resources
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated commitment to AsylumWorks’ mission, vision, and values
- Minimum of 3 years of professional and/or volunteer experience providing employment services to immigrant populations;
- Experience working with low-income, English-limited populations;
- Supervising or program management experience required;
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting;
- Able to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment;
- A demonstrated awareness of cultural humility;
- Strong interpersonal communication skills;
- An inherent desire to improve, create, and problem-solve;
- Bilingual language skills in English and preferably Spanish, Pashto/Dari, or Amharic
- Computer literacy;
- Valid U.S. Work Authorization; and
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
SALARY
$64,000-66,000 commensurate with experience.
