Etsegenet works directly with clients to identify their goals and support them in achieving them. She also supervises therapeutic case managers and fellows. Passionate about empowering and engaging clients in clinical conversations, Etsegenet helps them become their own best advocates. Back home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Etsegenet worked as a licensed practicing lawyer. Prior to joining AsylumWorks, she served as a paralegal for the Catholic Legal Immigration Network and a program coordinator at Nonprofit Village in Maryland. Etsegenet also interned with the African Faith and Justice Network and volunteered at the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. She received her MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work, a B.A. in law from Addis Ababa University, and an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from Lund University. Etsegenet is fluent in Amharic and Swedish.
