LGBTQ+ newcomers are feeling more afraid and alone in today’s immigration environment. Many AsylumWorks clients are afraid to go to the grocery store, take public transit, or even be seen in public.
NBC Washington recently spoke with our Director of Programs, Naomi Rennard, about how this fear prevents newcomers from accessing the social services they need.
“We had one queer client who said he felt the same anxiety he did in his village when he came out,” Naomi shared. “This is a real fear we aren’t used to seeing.”
