“Each day is an opportunity to stand beside someone and help change the course of their life. That purpose gives me hope.”

People often ask us, “How do you work with immigrants in such a difficult time?” The truth is: it’s not easy.
With shifting immigration policies and growing uncertainty, many AsylumWorks clients are worried about their futures and even afraid to leave their homes, despite following U.S. immigration law. These challenges weigh heavily on our community–and on our team.
And yet, our work is still rewarding. We asked our staff a simple but powerful question: Where are you finding hope?. Here’s what they shared:
“In our team meetings, we make time to talk about our feelings. Talking it out with other team members helps me feel like I’m not alone and reminds me that we’re all in this together.”
“Some people say this work must be so sad. But for me, it’s the opposite. I feel hopeful because I get to be around people who find solutions for our clients. We’re “can” people, and that inspires me.”
“I find hope in the people we serve. Clients tell me about everything they’ve been through and somehow they’re able to sit in front of me with a smile on their face. I leave those meetings full of admiration for how strong they are.”
“I find hope when I hear that one of my clients has been granted asylum. It reminds me that there are still good people out there fighting for their rights.”
“Volunteers give me hope. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been overwhelmed by how many people have reached out to help. Despite everything going on, they still want to pour into their community–and that’s amazing. Even if jobs or funding disappear, the passion never does.”
“I see hope in collaboration–when we bring our ideas together to support our clients and find the good in every situation. It’s our creativity that gives me hope.”
“Each day is an opportunity to stand beside someone and help change the course of their life. That purpose is what drives me.”
“Our donors remind me that even in uncertain times, compassion endures. Their support proves we’re not alone–that there are people out there who still believe in helping others.”
Interwoven through these reflections is one simple truth: hope is found in each other. Even in the hardest moments, our team continues to find reasons to hope. We laugh together, lean on each other, and witness small yet powerful signs of progress every day. The challenges we face are real, but so is the community we’ve built to face them together.
