Awel is a native of Ethiopia with a Master’s Degree in Constitutional and Public Law from Addis Ababa University and a Master’s Degree in Comparative Law from the University of Turin. Back home, Awel taught in higher education and provided free legal services for vulnerable or marginalized communities. He also organized and led clinical legal programs. Awel has extensive experience working with pro-bono immigration lawyers and has directly worked on several cases pertaining to asylum seekers in Europe. Since arriving in the U.S., Awel has volunteered for various community and legal associations, lending his skills and expertise to help those in need. Awal is fluent in Amharic and Afan Oromo.
