Employment & Education Program Internship, Summer 2026

AsylumWorks was founded in 2016 to address the holistic needs of individuals and families navigating the U.S. immigration system. Our mission is to empower newcomers seeking safety to overcome health, employment, and legal challenges. Our interdisciplinary approach combines Health & Wellness, Employment & Education, and Legal Navigation services to help clients rebuild healthy, safe, and self-sufficient lives. Services are free and available to newcomers living in the Washington, D.C. metro region, regardless of language or country of origin. Central to our approach is our commitment to hiring and training bilingual newcomers to support other newcomers. This ensures our services remain culturally responsive, impactful, and sustainable over time. 

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION 

AsylumWorks is seeking a volunteer intern (unpaid) to provide practical assistance to our Employment & Education program for approximately 40 hours per week during the Summer 2026 semester, enhancing resources for clients related to the job search. This opportunity is ideal for a driven undergraduate or graduate student seeking experience in nonprofit work, economic mobility, entrepreneurship, community engagement, education, employment support, job coaching, and resource development. This internship will allow participants to connect meaningfully with AsylumWorks staff and support services for AsylumWorks clients. The Employment and Education Program Manager will supervise the internship.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Maintain the E&E Program’s employment & education resource bank
    • Review and assess resources to ensure they are relevant accurate, and up-to-date for clients to use
    • Organize and categorize resources for easy access and usability
    • Design one-pagers, fact sheets, and other deliverables to present resource content effectively to clients 
  • Develop and execute at least three client training program pathways
    • Identify high-demand training opportunities for clients Develop a comprehensive plan to implement a cohort-based training program 
    • Create a detailed budget for hosting a cohort of clients, including training fees, materials, instructor costs, and any additional expenses 
    • Identify and vet qualified instructors or training providers, including gathering cost estimates and availability 
    • Design the proposed structure of the training program, including timeline, cohort size, delivery format (in-person, virtual, or hybrid), and completion requirements 
    • Coordinate and document logistical considerations such as scheduling, location, technology needs, and participant support
    • Prepare a final written proposal outlining findings, cost analysis, recommended training program, and implementation plan
  • Assist the E&E team with community engagement tasks related to volunteer onboarding, program alumni engagement, and monthly event planning 
    • Support outreach efforts to connect with alumni and other stakeholders 
    • Assist in planning and executing monthly events focused on employment and education topics 
    • Research and coordinate guest speakers, panelists, and industry professionals for events 
    • Manage podcast logistics, such as promotion, developing high-quality content, and tracking performance 
    • Develop event materials, including promotional flyers, agendas, and follow-up resources 
    • Manage event logistics such as scheduling, venue coordination, and participant outreach 
    • Support event facilitation, including setup, tech support, and audience engagement 
    • Support special projects as they arise

 

The intern may also propose an individual project related to AsylumWorks’ mission and E&E Program to execute based on their academic and professional interests.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with relevant experience or a focus of study in social science, education, communications, business, or a related field; 
  • Demonstrated commitment to AsylumWorks’ mission, vision, and values; 
  • Willingness to provide hands-on administrative support;
  • Strong organization and time management skills; 
  • High level of initiative, resourcefulness, and thoroughness;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; 
  • A demonstrated awareness of cultural humility; and 
  • An inherent desire to improve, create, and problem-solve.

 

SCHEDULE 

This is a remote internship. We are seeking a candidate who can volunteer

as an intern for approximately 40 hours per week from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The option to extend the internship through the summer may be available.
